Sarah Braman, This Good Earth

October 15 - December 12, 2026

Press Release Back

The Green Gallery is honored to present Sarah Braman's first solo exhibition in Milwaukee, This Good Earth. This presentation arrives on the heels of her 2024 contribution, Stay to Sculpture Milwaukee's Actual Fractals, Act II, a work that remains permanently installed just south of the gallery at Burns Commons. As a founder of CANADA New York, Braman has cultivated a network of artistic communities—including such Green Gallery friends as Katerine Bernhardt, Sahar Khoury, RJ Messineo, Scott Reeder, and Tyson Reeder. Known for creating spaces for other artists, she brings that same generosity to her own practice.

The exhibition showcases eight new works across the gallery. Braman's palette saturates the space in blues, pinks, magentas, and violets. Regularly incorporating colored glass, metal, and wood, she constructs portals and windows throughout the gallery that frame and reflect color as daylight shifts across the room.

Multifunctional sculptures occupy the gallery floor. Stacked modular cubes intersect to form bookshelves holding a curated selection of books while supporting houseplants. Two seats, crafted from joined sheets of stained plywood, invite viewers to rest and engage with the work. Color is sprayed on car doors Morning Drive, Evening Drive, Night Drive, suggesting the blur of the sky from the window of a moving car.

Braman's work is activated by lived experience in a home environment.  Bookshelves and seating welcome physical interaction, encouraging audiences to slow down, sit, and look through the books. These objects care for other things—not only bodies and books, but plants that require nurturing. The work re-envisions the domestic, where desires for living converge within shared space.

Transparency and atmospheric color fields also gesture toward an interiority that cannot be grasped—something simultaneously within and beyond, evoking a sense of the spiritual. The glass in these works acts as a mirror or transparent window, in both cases a vehicle for reflecting back movement and light in the room.  Minimal in nature, these panes open onto a space of presence, making us aware of what the work contains and what transcends it. Braman's works are thresholds—material repositionings, circulatory immersions of lived experience and emotional life.

Join us for the public opening reception with the artist on Thursday, October 15th from 6:00–7:30pm.
