"Democrats, Republicans, Capitalists and Creeps"… and You
Michael White

Michael White The Green Gallery West

Reception: May 2 7-9pm
Exhibition: May 2 - June 13, 2015

It is only just over a year since the Islamic militant group Boko Haram kidnapped 274 girls from their school in Chibok, in northeast Nigeria.

In his exhibition of new works, "Democrats, Republicans, Capitalists and Creeps"... and You, Michael White casts a critical eye over the reporting of this event. Using this as starting point, the work in the show serves to examine the use of obfuscation and trivialization in a wider cultural context. A range of motifs connect ideas of social media's 'identity economy' with capitalistic dogmatism and non-linear narrative encouraging viewers to assess the subtext of ethical grand standing which forms much of our news culture in developed western democracies.

Michael White lives and works in Glasgow, recent shows include: Celluloid Brushes- Culturgest, Porto, "You're studying that reality... We'll act again" - Queens Park Railway Club, Glasgow 'Viva Maria' - Luciana Brito Galeria, Sao Paulo, "This Image License Has Expired" - Glue Factory, Glasgow and 'Dear Green' - ZKU, Berlin
