José Lerma
Lerma's
work is focused on painting and works about paintings. In a unique
style and aesthetic Lerma folds the personal into the historical and
art historical. He says “that
all art is about other art and about your parents.” His canvases
are often thick with globs of paint that create the shapes of
portraits with no likeness. Born
in Seville, Spain. Currently works and lives in Brooklyn, NY and
Chicago, IL. He is a professor of painting at the School of the Art
Institute in Chicago and is represented by Andrea Rosen Gallery in
New York.
